In secret, all car company marketing people want a bakkie in their line-up. With their simple construction and low technology cost threshold, bakkies are cheap to build and massively profitable.

If bakkies are such a good business, why would a brand that has one not market it locally? It is an issue Renault is dealing with regarding its Oroch, an interesting bakkie with no rivals in the local market.

The French brand's compact double-cab would compete in a potentially lucrative lifestyle segment of the market, where entrenched bakkie brands such as Ford and Toyota have no models to counter it.
