Cape Town - Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, has been named the 'most valuable' car brand in Interbrand's 2015 Best Global Brands.
According to Interbrand, Toyota's brand value is $49.05-billion in 2015.
BMW is ranked second ($37.21-billion) with Mercedes-Benz in third place ($36.71-billion). Honda remains in fourth place with a value of $22.98-billion.
VW still in top 5
Embattled Volkswagen completes the top five though it has lost 9% of its value ($12.55-billion). VW is the only automaker on the list that's worth less than it was in 2014, reports Interbrand.
VW is the subject of an ongoing investigation as it admitted to fitting 'defeat devices' in its vehicles to cheat emissions tests.
