The debate surrounding wedding guest fashion has been discussed a lot, as celebrities and regular people have broken the code several times.

This is all due to the fact that there seems to be a misunderstanding surrounding the colours you are allowed to wear at a wedding. Not only are certain colours a problem, but also the design; for example, if it's too revealing, it may not be appropriate to wear at someone's wedding.

We've seen the Kardashian-Jenner sisters face criticism for wearing a revealing dress to their friend's weddings and Olivia Wilde for wearing white at a friend's wedding. Now Melissa Gorga joins the list of celebrity wedding guests who have committed faux pas.

This past weekend, Melissa Gorga attended her cousin, Nicholas Marco and his now husband Mike Masco's wedding in New York. The reality star took to Instagram to share pictures of the day, including what she wore.

In the first picture, the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member is posing between Marco and Masco, wearing a low-cut white sequin dress with a gold, sparkly geometric pattern at the waist and a slit down one of her legs. She also posted a picture of her mother's side of the family, showing them all wearing matching white, silver and gold hues.

As soon as Melissa's post went up on Instagram, users jumped into her comment section to share their opinions, calling her "thirsty."

"Melissa, your dress is gorgeous, but how you gonna [sic] wear white to someone else's wedding," one said. Another added, "Why are you wearing white? #Thirsty".

According to Page Six, the representative for Melissa explained why she wore the dress, saying that the grooms specifically requested that the bridesmaids wear white and gold.

Olivia Wilde

When Jordan C. Brown and Colton Underwood got married this year in May, their celebrity guest and friend Olivia Wilde wore an actual white wedding gown. After pictures of her surfaced, she took to social media to post a story she captioned, "Wore a wedding dress to a wedding, just so I could make a joke about it."

Kim Kardashian

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian's assistant, Stephanie Shepherd, got married this year in June, and Kim attended the wedding wearing a racy black number that had everyone talking. The revealing outfit featured a small bandeau across Kim's chest, paired with a floor-length skirt that had a zig-zag design that was open all the way to her upper thighs and black underwear.

Kendall Jenner

Kim's younger sister, Kendall Jenner, also wore a revealing outfit when she attended Lauren Perez's wedding in November 2021. Her dress featured slits of fabric covering sections of her abdomen and chest. It also had a wide slit in the middle, creating a triangular effect. A month after the wedding pictures circled the internet, the 818 Tequila founder defended her choice by saying, "Obvi asked for your approval in advance, too. We love a beach wedding."
