It might sound stereotypical, but picture this: a man waiting in the queue at the grocery store. He has dishevelled dark hair, an unshaven face, tattoos down his muscular arm, and is wearing ripped jeans and leather boots. He stands with assured confidence and is unbothered by the activity of the shoppers around him. Most women would find him attractive because of his seemingly nonchalant appearance and attitude. But, why is this the case? Why are women so attracted to what we call "bad boys"?

From the suave Idris Elba to the always charming Jared Leto and every man who you have had a crush on, chances are they have all been the "bad boy" archetype.

According to Mark de la Rey, a clinical psychologist in Cape Town, a "bad boy" is a man who is rebellious, adventurous, self-assured and exudes masculinity".
