  • Brides often go through wedding disasters out of their control and this ruins their special day.
  • Zavion Kotze-Brereton is a floral and wedding designer who has seen brides stressed out and frustrated.
  • He founded I Do Insurance to safeguard and offer relief, especially when unpredictable situations such as Covid happen.

A myriad of obstacles can play out on a wedding day and hinder the perfect execution on the important day.

Can you imagine watching your wedding day get ruined after the rigorous planning and monies spent?

Zavion Kotze-Brereton is a seasoned floral and wedding designer who has been part of almost 2 000 weddings in her ten-year career. He has had to put out fires in his career. Even at weddings he was not directly involved in, he has had to help restore calm when these unexpected bride's nightmares hit.

His experiences in wedding disaster management have inspired him to start I Do Insurance. "We want couples to be able to relax and enjoy their day, safe in the knowledge that they are covered for the worst that life can throw at them on the day as they prepare for their life together," Zavion says.

Some disasters can easily be solved, but there are those that cause a lot of damage. Zavion says these are some of the major ones often overlooked.

Natural disasters

"One time, a bride called me after her wedding venue had just burnt down in a veld fire and her wedding was happening the very next day. After a couple of phone calls, we had put together a wedding for her. This included a venue, décor, flowers, and everything in between that had been affected by the fire," he says.

Bad weather

"Somehow, brides seem to believe that it could never rain on their wedding day, but this is one of those things that's out of anyone's control. You can control insurance. You would be covered if your wedding venue somehow gets rain/storm damage or the wedding isn't accessible due to severe weather. With insurance, you can take that aspect of "what if" off your hands."

Health

"One of the biggest disasters that can happen on a wedding day is a bride or a groom falling ill and being unable to participate. Without insurance, all the money paid towards the wedding would be lost, especially if something like that happens on the wedding day. I Do Insure covers an aspect of Covid-19 - so if you, your fiancé, your parents, or any bridal party member contracts Covid within two weeks of the wedding and the wedding cannot proceed - you are covered."
