When Carolyn Botha attended the inaugural Miss World South Africa (MWSA) pageant in 2023, the former Miss World South Africa vice-president was attending as a member of the public because she had been let go by Miss World licence holder Carol Bouwer.
According to Botha's account, she had watched someone unqualified take the crown after Claude Mashego emerged victorious.
