It's widely accepted that tourism boards massage the truth when selling their destinations. A slightly oversaturated sunset, a light photoshopping of crowds from a usually chaotic attraction, or an emotive song played over an unattainable highlights reel of activities may be slightly problematic, but are standard tools of the trade.

But, increasingly, tourism boards - and even a travel guide - have slipped up by using footage and photos from different destinations altogether. And in the age of social media, reverse image searches, and witty commenters on Reddit, there's often nowhere to hide when they do.

Amazingly, there have been some zingers in recent years - and not all have been innocent stock footage mix-ups. Scenic train rides, pristine beaches, and even wildlife photos have all been subject to repurposing for different destinations - sometimes on different continents entirely.
