Army seizes power in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou - Burkina's army seized power on Thursday, with the head of the armed forces announcing the dissolution of government and parliament and the creation of a transitional body to run the country after violent protests against Oresident Blaise Compaore's 27-year-rule.

The transitional body will seek a return to constitutional order "within 12 months", army chief Nabere Honore Traore said in a statement read out by an officer at a press conference in the capital Ouagadougou.

The military also announced a curfew from 19:00 until 06:00.
