Kenya won't allow homosexuality, says VP Ruto

Cape Town – Kenya will not allow homosexuality, Vice President William Ruto has reportedly said, adding that the practice is against Christianity and human nature.

According to Standard media, Ruto said this during a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Kasarani.

"We will stand with religious leaders to defend our faith and believes. We will not allow homosexuality in our society as it violates our religious and cultural believes," Ruto was quoted as saying.

Ruto's remarks came a few days after a high court ordered a government agency that regulates non-governmental organisations to recognise and register a human rights group seeking to protect the rights of gay people in the country.

In the landmark decision, the judge ruled that the country's constitution protected the rights of sexual minorities and did not allow the limitation of rights on moral or religious grounds, gaystarnews reported on Monday.

Kenya is one of the most homophobic countries in the world. A 2007 survey found that 96% of Kenyans found homosexuality unacceptable, the report said.
