Moz opposition leaders reject early poll results

Maputo - The leaders of Mozambique's opposition parties say they reject early results which show victory for the ruling Frelimo party.

Provisional results released by the country's electoral commission show the Frelimo's candidate, Filipe Nyusi, leads with 62% of the votes that have been counted. Main opposition leader, Afonso Dhlakama has 32% of the vote so far while the Mozambique Democratic Movement's Daviz Simango has garnered just over 10%.

Dhlakama and Simango have said the polls were marred by irregularities and both parties plan legal challenges rejecting the preliminary results. Dhlakama's Renamo party called for a government of national unity to deter the possibility of violence.

Observes on Friday declared the election free and fair, saying the irregularities were not enough to discount the vote.

Counting is still underway.
