Johannesburg - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Maseru, Lesotho, for talks to restore stability in the mountain kingdom, his office said on Monday.
"The deputy president is expected to spend two days in the country to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the political and security challenges facing the country, as mandated by SADC," spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said.
Ramaphosa, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) facilitator, would be in Lesotho for two days.
The country has been in turmoil since an attempted coup caused leaders to flee to South Africa. Agence France-Presse reported that the funeral for a police officer killed in Lesotho's abortive coup on 30 August was held on Saturday.
The death of Lesotho police sub-inspector Mokheseng Ramahloko was the first and so far only fatality in the African nation's three-week crisis.
Mamoepa said Ramaphosa would hold talks with political and other role players. Ramaphosa visited the country on 18 September as part of regional efforts to restore stability.
