Ramaphosa is in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea

Johannesburg - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Thursday to attend the second Africa-Turkey summit of heads of state and government, the presidency said.

Ramaphosa was representing President Jacob Zuma at the summit which was taking place on Thursday and Friday, his spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said in a statement.

"The summit is expected to discuss, among other key issues, the matrix of key projects, an implementation plan as well as the summit outcomes declaration."

It was expected to be opened by Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, Mauritania President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and the African Union commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

"The summit will expectedly be preceded by meetings of ministers and senior government officials whose recommendations will serve as a basis for discussions and decision-making by heads of state and government, culminating in the adoption of the summit declaration," Mamoepa said.

Ramaphosa was expected to hold several bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the summit.

He would return to South Africa on Friday.
