Third person dies of Ebola fever in Nigeria

Abuja - A member of the West African regional body Ecowas has become the third person in Nigeria to die of Ebola fever, Ecowas said on Wednesday.

Jatto Asihu Abdulqudir, aged 36, a protocol assistant, was travelling to an Ecowas function with Liberian Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought Ebola to Nigeria last month. Abdulqudir had been under quarantine. The country has reported eight cases of Ebola since Sawyer arrived on 20 July.

"The Commission wishes to reassure staff of all Community institutions all over the entire region that it is taking all necessary steps to guarantee their health and safety," Ecowas said in a statement.

Close our borders! Call me Xenophobic - I dont care! The Ebola virus WILL find its way to South Africa.... Ask yourself how many illegal immigrants are in our country, then as yourself how did they get in? Now you know Ebola will com into our country - across unguarded borders, through unscrupulous border guards, in planes with forged passports! We should find our own answers and cures to the virus - we defame the West and then we go to them with our begging bowls... Why has Africa not found a cure for a virus that has been in Africa for decades? Sad but true....
