UN: Assailants attack convoy, kill 2, wound 1 in north Mali

Bamako - The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali says two assailants attacked a U.N. convoy of civilian workers in north Mali, killing two.

The UN mission said on Saturday that assailants stopped the convoy and shot the drivers dead before setting the vehicles on fire late on Friday night. It said another team member was wounded, but escaped with others after the attack about 15km west of the northern city of Gao.

This attack comes days after an attack on the UN peacekeeping base in the same region as Gao, which killed three people and wounded 16. A group formed by Algerian Islamic extremist leader Moktar Belmoktar claimed responsibility for that attack, according to SITE Intelligence group.

Peace talks started again recently between the Mali government and armed groups.
