New York - The UN Security Council on Thursday decided to boost the UN force in the Central African Republic by 1 050 peacekeepers as the country prepares for elections.
The 15-member council unanimously adopted a French-drafted resolution that provides for an increase of 750 military personnel, 280 police and 20 corrections officers.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had asked for the troop increase in February, arguing that the additional forces would help enhance security during and after the elections.
