Dar es Salaam - An Islamic extremist leader detained in Tanzania is fighting his extradition home to Uganda.
Jamil Mukulu appeared in a court in Dar es Salaam on Friday to challenge the extradition proceedings.
He is wanted in Uganda to stand trial on multiple charges of murder.
Mukulu is leader of the Allied Democratic Forces, an Islamic extremist group blamed for a series of recent attacks on civilians in eastern Congo. The group originated in Uganda.
Congo's government also wants Mukulu to stand trial in that country, arguing he committed crimes there.
The magistrate said he would hear Mukulu's submissions against the extradition request from Uganda on May 25.
