US wants 'full investigation' into DRC death of UN experts

New York - The US ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday called for a "full investigation" into the death of two UN experts killed in March in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Michael Sharp, a US citizen, and Zaida Catalan, a Swedish-Chilean dual national, were likely murdered by Congolese militia members while on a mission investigating violence and mass graves in the country's restive Kasai province, a UN inquiry out on Wednesday found.

"The murder of UN experts - especially like Michael and Zaida, who risked their own lives in order to help others - cannot end in a bureaucratic procedure," said US Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Zim's first lady Grace Mugabe remains out of sight amid assault claims

Johannesburg - Zimbabwe's first lady remained out of sight on Friday, several days after a young model claimed Grace Mugabe whipped her with an extension cord in a luxury hotel in South Africa.

South African authorities are weighing a request by Zimbabwe's government for diplomatic immunity for the first lady, who has not commented since the alleged assault on Sunday night.

South African police have issued a "red alert" at its borders to ensure Mugabe doesn't leave undetected, and they say they are confident the first lady remains in the country. Police also say their investigation is complete but needs a government decision on the immunity appeal.

Nairobi - Kenyan officials say suspected Islamic militants have beheaded three people and burnt houses in an attack along the Indian Ocean coast.

Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo says gunmen believed to al-Shabaab militants attacked Maleli village near Witu town.

Beheadings by al-Shabaab have been relatively rare in Kenya, where the extremist group has carried out dozens of deadly attacks over the years. The group in July was accused of beheading nine people in another village in Lamu County and has stepped up attacks in East African country in recent weeks.

Dlamini-Zuma on Grace Mugabe incident: The law must take its course

Cape Town – The African Union Commission's former chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has reportedly said that women are capable leaders, adding that "the bahaviour of one woman should not be allowed to taint all women".

According to a report published on SABC, Dlamini-Zuma said this while dismissing suggestions that Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe's alleged assault was a blight on women aspiring to lead.

She said that women were human beings and like anybody else, some were bound to make mistakes "just like man do".
