Landlord kills 'mentally-ill' tenant for 'failing to flush toilet'

Accra – A Ghanaian home owner reportedly hit and killed his "mentally-ill" tenant with an unidentified metallic object for "failing to flush the toilet" after using it.

According to Ghana Web, Nana Konadu died three days following the incident.

Nigeria says warship on way toward Gambia 'to sack Jammeh'

Abuja - Nigeria confirms one of its warships is heading toward Gambia but calls it a "flag-showing and West Africa training" exercise as the tiny West African nation faces a possible regional military intervention.

Nigerian Navy spokesperson Captain Dahun Jahun responded on Wednesday to local media reports that the warship was a show of force in an effort to get Gambia's president to step down.

Donkey reflectors! Vets' bright bid to stop Zimbabwe's donkey road carnage

Beitbridge - It's a grim sight along roads leading to the Beitbridge border post in Zimbabwe: donkeys, killed or maimed by drivers travelling at night.

So a group of vets in Zimbabwe has come up with a simple, inexpensive solution: donkey reflectors.

Collars made of reflective yellow tape should help drivers avoid donkeys who've wandered onto unfenced roads in the dark.

Nigeria air strike error: President Buhari expresses 'deep sadness, regret'

Maiduguri - A Nigerian air force fighter jet on a mission against Boko Haram extremists mistakenly bombed a refugee camp on Tuesday, killing more than 100 refugees and aid workers and wounding 200, a government official and doctors said.

Military commander Major General Lucky Irabor confirmed an accidental bombardment in the northeastern town of Rann, near the border with Cameroon, saying "some" civilians were killed.

Typhoid claims another victim in Harare – report

Harare – The typhoid outbreak that hit Zimbabwe in recent months has killed a 13-year-old girl, as fears escalated that the disease might spread to other parts of the country, a report said on Wednesday. 

According to SABC, the latest casualty occurred in Mbare, a township on the outskirts of the country's capital Harare.

Recent heavy rains that hit the southern African country reportedly further elevated fears of a major outbreak.

Gambia crisis: Parliament extends Jammeh's stay in power 3 months

Banjul - Gambia's parliament has voted to extend President Yahya Jammeh's term in office for three months, even as his mandate was set to end on Thursday, state television said on Wednesday. The extension takes effect immediately.

The announcement came a day after Jammeh declared a three-month state of emergency as he seeks to stay in power despite losing elections in December. President-elect Adama Barrow has vowed to be sworn in on Thursday, with the backing of the international community.

As the political crisis deepened, special flights were being organised to evacuate British and other tourists from Gambia, where the threat of a regional military intervention loomed to force Jammeh to step down.
