There is something interesting about South Africans and that is how irrational we can be. We are currently upset at the amount of money our President spent on security upgrades in Nkandla, but honestly, how could, he not when he is on top of most of our hit list, how could he not when he knows how our blood boils when we see his face or even hear of him. How could we not when we openly showed how we detest him in front of the world during Nelson Mandela’s memorial. Our President fears his people. How can he not fear us when he has wronged us so many times, we should however remember that it’s not only South Africans our President fears, with his associations with all the Mafias you can think of and God knows who else in the underworld, it is not surprising that our President needs security tighter than one you would need in prison that hosts very dangerous criminals. This is rather a sad case because he has escaped prison only to imprison himself.
Another form of irrationality comes when people want to vote for Julius Malema, have we forgotten what he and his friend Cassel Mathale did in Limpopo? How can we say we are tired of corruption and yet feel the need to endorse corrupt people? Did we not learn anything on the repercussions of being led by people with questionable integrity? We allowed a President who was acquitted of rape and corruption to lead us, how has that translated into the levels of rape and corruption statistics? What we actually should be saying is that people with tainted image should not be allowed to run for Presidency or any role, the same way we do references and refchecks in organizations, people who intend to lead the country should be vetted more rigorously.
The peak of our nauseating irrational behavior is when we use race cards against DA. How DA will not serve the needs of black people, how it has token black people. Allow me to bring this case in point; Right now, we (South Africans) are paying lots of money and someone is making lots of money out of the broadcasting of the Oscar Pistorius Trial. We are trying to prove that Oscar’s murder was pre-meditated, have we ever thought about how we did nothing to the police who we knew intended to kill the people in Marikana? How Dali Mpofu had to beg, steal and borrow to defend the injustice that continues to perpetuate against the people at the bottom of the social pyramid, where was your much revered pit-bull Gerrie Nel when the wives and kids of those who died in Marikana needed people of his caliber to expose the State and every fat cat involved in the decision to kill those poor people? Does the Marikana scenario not remind you of June 16, 1976? How many people has the state killed through our police to date, yet people have a nerve to pull a race card against DA. It is always convenient to lambast the DA, yet we are always happy when they serve as the corruption barometer, helping us to be aware of how our money is being spent on anything that does not matter from takeaways, to overseas travel and luxurious cars.
It is up to us fellow countryman to put our foot down and say enough is enough, to remain a Champion one needs to keep on winning, you cannot sustain a Championship title on past victories, ANC has done well in the past but they are totally wronging themselves and us, their wisdom is now consumed in their confidence which is actually a nauseating arrogance. As we approach the election period, let us be wise in creating the future we all deserve and creating the Country we all can live in. Let us work together even in our spheres of influence and realize that the current challenges facing our country are calling for all of us to account. We need to also be mindful that corruption, poor service delivery, crime, rape, poor education standards are not black or white issues, they are issues that affect us all. Etolls, which we did not ask for by the way, load shedding and looming water crisis are not black or white issues, they are South African issues. Let us do our bit to shape a greater South Africa and let us not create a brat and monster out of ANC by sparing it a rod.
