Why you need to vote opposition you ask me.
I will in the following few words try to explain my logic surrounding the coming election. I will try to convey my concerns about what is happening in SA. I will attempt to show the truth of the matter where South African politics is concerned.
I want to start with the following quote by Madiba –“ We dedicate this day to all the heroes and heroines in this country and the rest of the world who sacrificed in many ways and surrendered their lives so that we could be free. Their dreams have become reality. Freedom is their reward.
We are both humbled and elevated by the honour and privilege that you, the people of South Africa, have bestowed on us, as the first President of a united, democratic, non-racial and non-sexist government. First
I want to show respect for Reggie Oliphant, Hector Petersen. I want to show my respect to Chris Hani, but a few people who shaped the country we live in. There are many more who actually gave their lives for freedom to become a reality. What do we do with the blood that was shed for our freedom? What do we as South Africans do to sow respect to them who left their kids and their grand kids and all their hopes and dreams behind to make sure you and me can finally step into a voting booth and “Do Democracy”. How do we remember the struggle when we go to vote. Do we remember it as Nelson Mandela going to prison for 2 7 years because of what he stood for.
Are you man or women enough to face the realities that is South Africa or are we still attached by the very nature of the struggle, while the struggle has really changed from “Amandla Aweto” to “Amandla Democracy” . Looking back at 20 years of freedom brings tears to my eyes, thinking how Nelson walked free after sacrificing his marriage, his family, his whole life for US all. How do we respect Madiba when it comes to these elections?. Much is said about ANC stall wards. Very little is said about people of the struggle who moved on beyond emotionalism to reality of what is happening on the ground.
We have seen quit a few partied come to the fore. We have seen people making blunders during their efforts to birth a party, but then we also know birth is not easy. To bring a child into the world is one the most amazing things that can happen on our planet. Now with a new birth come new responsibilities and new challenges. With a new birth come smiles and cries and anger and all emotions we can think of. With child birth, there is always vision and dreams and plans made for the future. We nurture the young to become independent human beings who can look after themselves and can look after someone else as well.
Our 20 years of freedom has seen its high’s and its lows. It has seen jubilee and groans of pain. Our young democracy is going somewhere slowly. Madiba said “ We are both humbled and elevated by the honor”. Does this word even come to mind when looking at our country today? Do this word, even echo through the bays and the valleys. Do these words have a place in our modern South Africa? Humbled………This word alone, gives me shivers. It makes me to rethink what I do and how I do it and what I don’t do. This word could be one the single most powerful words on our planet. Humbled………I feel humbled to write this note. I feel humbled to be able to put these thoughts to pen. So then, where are we in our new democracy? Where do we want to be? Where should we have been? These Questions, many of us will answer differently. Many will answer it backed by their political affiliation. Many will answer it with the backing of their education and experience. Most will answer it with what they have experienced the last 20 years.
I want to continue and say many a country have had their scandals. Did South Africa had one too many? What are we saying about our health system, our education system, our Sports administrations. What do we say about our road and our infrastructure? What do we say about joblessness? What we say about corruption and what do we say about wastage of public money. The ANC has ruled most of our country the past 20 years. I do not think it is fair to say all our problems should have been resolved. I do not think it is fair to expect for us to have no crime society or murders. It is just impossible to change a country that fast with a democracy then dictatorship. So what is fare comment?
Is it fair to say, the weapons transaction should never have happened? Would it be fair to say, our education system is in shambles? Is it fair to say our kids are as confused as to what is expected of them that they just don’t perform to their best? Would it be fair to comment that we as South African men are actually fed up sitting at home or looking for a job that is nowhere to be seen. Is it fair to say that land reform should have had an overall long time back? Would I make a fair assumption to say the tolls system in Gauteng is a blunder in its planning, building and implementation?
I would like to say South African have come a long way in looking at politics with a much broader lens than before. I hope to bring change and betterment for all with this writing. I would like to say, I am not against the ANC as a party, but just believe that a stronger opposition is key to building a great South Africa. Without a strong opposition, this country is in BIG TROUBLE. Without others to direct or divert the path of the ANC thinking it is going to be a troublesome few years ahead. I do believe that if we could have a 50/50 split between ANC and opposition we have a perfect chance to make South Africa the place to invest, the place to come have holidays, the place to come and play. We need this for our children and their children. We need this for the future of this country. We owe this to them that comes after us.
So I want to ask all my readers to consider these facts and assumptions and logic to
