Small businesses to pay R1 rent - DA

Johannesburg - Small, innovative businesses will pay R1 for rent under the DA in Gauteng, premier candidate Mmusi Maimane said on Wednesday.

"We want to make sure that small businesses can thrive," Maimane told supporters in Johannesburg during a DA march for jobs.

The government owned half of the buildings in the province. Business owners would pay R1 rent to create jobs, he said.

Maimane said there would be a programme to recoup the costs.

The big hindrance for small business owners was finding business space, he said.

Maimane called on people to vote for the DA as its policies did not undermine job creation.

"The ANC has failed people on the delivery of jobs. Jobs cannot be for the people who are connected to the ANC," he said.
