Angry people form opposition parties - Zuma

Bloemfontein - Opposition parties were formed by angry people who had been expelled from their parties, President Jacob Zuma said on Saturday.

"Vote for the ANC to make it stronger. Opposition parties can't change people's lives. ANC is like a vehicle, if you want to travel from one place to another," Zuma told hundreds of local residents in Thaba Nchu in the Free State.

Zuma also warned against accidentally voting for the African Independent Congress (AIC) party from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, which got seats in Parliament after some voters apparently confused its acronym and party colours with that of the ANC.

"You must check carefully when you vote. If you vote any other party, your vote doesn't go far, all it does is just to maintain a percentage for that party in Parliament," he said.

"I am very happy that I came here [Thaba Nchu], now we must unite and (make) the party very strong."

After addressing residents, Zuma danced and sang while residents cheered him on.

Earlier on Saturday, Zuma welcomed more than 600 defectors from opposition parties.
