Supporters stream in to hear Zuma

Port Elizabeth - Hundreds of supporters have started streaming into the Dan Qeqe stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay where President Jacob Zuma is due to speak.

More than 10 buses from Uitenhage, Zwide and Kwazakhele have so  far dropped off supporters at the stadium.

Singing and dancing to keep warm, the supporters braved freezing weather and rain to listen to Zuma.

ANC supporters said they could not miss the opportunity to hear Zuma.

An elderly supporter raised concern that they would be trampled, but everyone over the age of 60 were escorted to a tent closer to stadium while the younger supporters had to look after themselves in a steady downpour.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said on Thursday that they were expecting 40 000 supporters to flock to the Zwide stadium.

Around 500 buses have been hired to transport supporters to the stadium.

Hopeful business people started setting up stalls in and outside the stadium selling ANC caps, T-shirts and jackets.
