Alabama hunters haul in 450kg alligator

Camden - A group of Alabama hunters are celebrating the catch of a lifetime: A 4.5m long alligator weighing more than 450kg. ( ) reports the monster gator was pulled from the water in south Alabama early on Saturday during the state's alligator hunting season.

Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries biologists were able to measure the alligator, but weighing it posed a challenge.

The first attempt completely destroyed a winch assembly used to hoist most average gators. So they had to use a backhoe to lift the animal.

The alligator is the largest ever legally killed by an Alabama hunter. It was caught by Mandy and John Stokes, Kevin Jenkins and his children, 16-year-old Savannah and 14-year-old Parker.

Wow. Now what. Why kill an amazing creature like that. Probably ancient. Sad indeed and all for the sake of sport, ego and see what I hunted! =-

They kill alligators for their skins and for the meat. The wildlife authorities monitors numbers and awards the appropriate "tags" as to maintain a healthy population. Same as you that eat chicken, beef, veal etc. Your meat is not produced in the supermarket, they kill animals to get that meat. Only if you're a vegetarian that uses no leather or any products related to animals are you allowed to condemn this.
