According to a report on the Huffington Post Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud killed 1 977 houbara bustards. The birds are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
Every year the rare birds migrate from Asia to the Pakistani deserts. This area is known for attracting wealthy Arab royals especially in hunting season.
The meat of the houbara bustards according to local custom is widely considered to have strong aphrodisiac qualities.
In February Pakistan placed an interim ban on the hunting of the houbara bustards because they are close to extinction.
