WATCH: KFC cook caught on video 'sharpening knives' on pavement

accreditation

KFC South Africa is facing a second video scandal after a cook from an Umhlanga outlet was filmed allegedly “sharpening” knives on a pavement next to a bin.

The footage, first posted on a restaurant review page on Facebook, was filmed from the balcony of an adjacent hotel.

This comes after KFC staff members from Braamfontein were filmed washing chickens on the floor with a fire hose.

Ashrana Chanderanberg who uploaded the video clip to the Facebook group said “This is what happens every morning @KFC Coastlands Umhlanga....
"We residence [sic] off Horizon view and Ridgeton Towers back of KFC Coastlands instead of awakening to the smell of KFC we awaken by this agonizing sounds of sharpening knives....”

When asked by News24's Jeff Wicks if the video showed a man crouched down and sharpening knives on the pavement, she answered yes.

KFC Manager Cookie Naik said she knew nothing about the alleged practice or the video, before deferring comment to KFC head office.

Repeated attempts to obtain comment from KFC's corporate headquarters were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.

UPDATE:

KFC Africa Managing Director Doug Smart said that an investigation had been launched into video footage of a worker “sharpening” a knife on a pavement outside an Umhlanga store.

“We are aware of the incident at our restaurant in Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal. We take our quality standards extremely seriously and are in the process of conducting a thorough investigation,” he said.
