Last week the Tokyo Olympic Committee announced that skateboarding has been proposed as one of five new sports at the 2020 Olympic Games. Although the final decision will only be made by the IOC in 2016, this announcement will have a huge impact on the skateboarding industry in South Africa, where skateboarding has become one of the fastest-growing sports in recent years.
With the Skateboarding World Championships underway at the increasingly-popular Kimberley Diamond Cup for a third year, Tim McFerran of the World Skateboarding Federation has welcomed the Olympic acknowledgement of skateboarding as a sport discipline. We spoke to Tim over Skype. Watch.
