Another 365 days nearing the end. Yes, 365 days, yet only 16 days are devoted to fighting violence against woman and children. So roughly 4 % of the year we try not to be too mean to the two most beautiful things on earth.
Why do we need a campaign against such an unspeakable thing? Is this what has become of society? Woman and children must be treated with respect every single second of every day. The 16 days of activism is a disgrace!
Who exactly decided upon 16 days? Why did they not decide 17 days or 60 days for that matter? What kind of support does society provide on day 17 of the usual 16 days?
Kudos to the masterminds of this activism project (and I don’t mean this sarcastically). The concept is excellent but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Rather than 16 days in 2015 make it 32 days (so if there are any logistical problems you have 1 year to sort it out). Then in 2016 make it 64 days….
2017 - 128
2018 - 256
2019 - 512 oops 365 (147 days for a new activism project???).
One more thing…
Recently a few well known TV personalities had their heads manipulated via computer software to appear as if they were bald (the whole cancer chemo thing). Again, I don’t see the real benefit of this to society.
Those girls are attractive and if they had really shaved their heads I feel it would have sent out a better message than “I have an image that must not be altered literally because of my career…”
I see this as extremely derogatory because the people truly affected by cancer see someone that is actually very superficial trying to portray an image of the exact opposite. Ironic isn’t it? The aforementioned TV personalities can just as well really shave their heads because there is nothing wrong with a bald woman, on the contrary they proved through computer manipulation how sexy they appeared.
“Don’t complain about it if you’re not going to make it better”
- Sen Blanche Lincoln.
I know I complain a great deal but I hope my contribution to attaining a yearly activism campaign will come to fruition someday.
To the abovementioned TV personalities, I know your actions help spread the word about cancer and I commend you guys on that – just remember you can reach even more people by literally supporting those affected by cancer.
