Dont assume that your current Linkedin Profile Picture is great...that ID looking pic is average at most...nothing to be proud about..
Have you ever heard...a picture paints a thousand words...
The photo is the first thing potential employers, clients etc will notice and they will judge you on your profile pic...yes they will read your summary and so forth but they will always come back and say but that person looks like a .....5 Things to Consider about your Linkedin Profile Picture..
1. Get a profile picture...if you dont have one already
This sounds simple, but I have a few people on my Linkedin Profile that has that blue face..why...no one is ugly...if you have a Linkedin Account, theres no excuse for a pic.
2. Context is Everything
LinkedIn is a platform for professionals, so unless you are a veterinarian, never include your pet.
If you are a swimsuit model..add a pic of you in a bikini...if you are NOT a swimsuit model, then dont add it as a pic..
3. Lighting - whats that you ask?
Have you ever seen how a photographer takes a pic of a model...theres a white background, lights, etc...Get the same or at least make the effort of getting someone of this nature to get the photo right.
Taking a pic with your smartphone is not gonna cut it...maybe it will..
4. Don't be too formal or informal
Theres no need to have your Linkedin Pic look the same as everyone else..Im referring to that ID looking pic you have..
Think about the industry that you work in, then Google how other people in similar professions look, then pair it with a model look...look at how people stand in pics...make sense?
5. Hire a professional photographer
This might be pricy..but we all know of a photographer that has claim to fame...good or not, they bought a fancy camera...now they a photographer..
But you will be paying for lighting, composition etc..Afterwards there will be photoshop and retouching, this is not a bad thing.
But you want a great pic that is going to speak a thousand words.
