Americans keep making the same mistakes but hoping for better and different results

On the 10th August 1997 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) was branded a terrorist organization by the United States Government.

But fast forward to August 2014, the US is militarizing the Kurds against the devils incarnation the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Levant. Only someone very naïve will then conclude, Kurdistan Workers’ Party were absent in the Syria and Iraq conflict against ISIS-Levant.

The contradiction and inconstancy in the American Middle East policy will soon give rise to a Kurdistan State with its borders stretching from North Turkey, into Iraq and ending in Iran. Another recipe for a separatist war post ISIS-Levant defeat!

Although necessary, the arming of the Kurds and Shiites of Iraq will one day come back to haunt the US and other NATO members.

In the near future expect another all-out separatist war between Kurds, Iraqis, Iranians and Turks after the defeat of their common enemy. Kurds are becoming better armed and battle hardened every day and that alone would one day be to their advantage in their quest to attain their long held ambition – Statehood!

The turmoil in Iraq all began after 9/11 when George W. Bush Jnr the then satirist President of USA declared war and Christened that a “Crusade against the axis of evil.” The then President was lobbied by the Military Industrial Cooperation led by the likes of Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Zionists, Pentecostal and Evangelical Fundamentalists.

Historically the word ‘Crusade’ and Islam is like oil and water. The two do not mix and George Bush Jnr ‘Crusade’ gave rise to today’s Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)-Levant.

There was a lot of contradictions in the American Middle East Policy starting with the Iran and Iraq war of September 1980 to July 1988 which resulted in the demise of more than half a million mostly Iranians.

Iran (Shiites) became thee sworn enemy of the USA after the 1979 Iran Revolution and the subsequent American embassy hostage drama.  Americans saw it fit to then militarize Sunni led Iraq. Saddam Hussein was to become the bedmate of the US, against the late Ayatollah Khomeini.

That was a sectarian war that claimed many lives and many dying as a result of chemical weapons allegedly supplied by the West but unleashed by Saddam Hussein.

Saddam Hussein marriage of convenience with the US ended the day he invaded Kuwait. Except the Israelis, Americans political promiscuity in the Middle East never commits and the unceremonious hanging of Saddam would concur with that assertion.

Guess what, today (2014) the war against ISIS-Levant had brought together 2 strange bedmates i.e. Americans and the Iranians. While the Americans and her alliance partners unleash air power, it is mostly Iranians and Kurds who comprise the very successful ground forces in the push to oust ISIS-Levant from Western and Central Iraq.

Probably many Politicians, current affairs enthusiasts and International Relations (IR) scholars watch with keen interest and amazement at what is unfolding in the Middle East especially Syria and Iraq.

Also we may not forget the significant part played by the veterans – The Mujahidin of the Afghanistan war of 1979 – 1989. That war culminated to 9/11, the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq by the Americans.

The Americans CIA armed and had trained the Afghanistan resistance fighters (Mujahidin) against the occupying forces of the Soviet Union from 1979 to 1989. After the Afghanistan war and the humiliating defeat of the Soviets, the Mujahidin gave birth to Bin Laden leader of Al Qaeda and Mullar Omar leader of Taliban.

That gave birth to terror attacks against US interests in the Middle East and 9/11. That gave birth to today’s ISIS-Levant and other terror groups operating in the Middle East, South East Asia, West, North and East Africa.

The reason one had to relate to history was to expose the pattern that had unfolded from 1948 to date. The Americans had become the common denominator in the fermenting of most if not all so-called Islamists terror groups threatening to reverse Western Civilization back to Stone Age.

The present Shiite Iraqi government is a close ally of the US, Iran and Syria. And only someone very naïve would not conclude -The advanced weapons supplied to Iraq by Americans and most NATO members would not end up in the hands of Iran.

True to the saying:  “in politics there are no permanent enemies.” The rise of ISIS-Levant in Syria was as a result of Bashar Al Assad not doing much to stop them. Today the sustained US airstrikes had helped Assad forces regain enthusiasm and lost ground.

Although to some that may sound cynical if not unlikely - The Americans do need Bashar Al Assad in order to defeat ISIS-Levant.

But any direct or public alliance between US, Iran and Syria would alienate its longtime allies i.e. the Sunni block led by the Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. The contradiction in that Sunni-US alliance was the apparent support ISIS-Levant received from those Arab countries. The jury was still out there if that support was terminated when those countries joined the US led alliance against ISIS-Levant.

Those Sunni Arab countries may also be referred to as the US ‘friend-enemies’ because of their flirtation with groups like Al Qaeda, Afghanistan and Pakistan Taliban. In fact the bulk of those who bombed the twin towers in what was to be known as 9/11 came from Saudi Arabia. Recently the Afghanistan Taliban had attained ambassadorial status in Qatar.

The fall of Bashar Al Assad would definitely lead to a Libya type protracted civil war. Under no circumstances must the Americans relegate Syria to the present Libya anarchy status. If Bashar Al Assad were to fall, the anarchy that may unfold would definitely also lead to instability in Lebanon, probably worse than civil war of the 1980s.

In an event of an Islamic State victory in Syria, the elephant in the room would be the Golan Heights. An Islamic State of Syria would immediately have an excuse to without doubt declare war on Israel. But that would be one reason in the many reasons why an Islamic State of Syria would want the demise of Israel.

The rise of the Tea Party had culminated in the reemergence of the Republicans Party. The Tea Party and Republicans Party alliance is dominated by theocrats. With mostly non-secularists now dominating Congress and Senate, Capitol Hill is not that different to the system of the Ayatollahs dominating Iran.

It was mostly the Zionists, Pentecostal and Evangelical fundamentalists lobby behind the Republicans recent victory at the Capitol. Then rightfully so the war between the ‘Crusaders and Islamists’ would deservedly be called – Sectarian!

Former President George Bush Jnr ‘Crusaders’ were again occupying the echelons of power at Capitol Hill.  ISIS-Levant would continue to claim to be fighting against ‘Crusader infidels’.

For years the Americans kept making the same mistakes but hoping for a better and different result. Political promiscuity drives the Americans foreign policy.  What’s happening today in Iraq and Syria is a result of USA Foreign Policy of not building and mending Foreign Relations but creating enemies en masse at all costs in the Middle East and beyond.

One is only left with the question – When will it end?  As things stand it seems like, total destruction is the only solution, and no one can stop ‘Crusaders and Islamists’ now!
