Amidst the chaos, South Africans are making it happen!

Now normally, one should really be concerned that a guy, reportedly with a Standard 4, is responsible for taking our country forward - and generating that all-important economic growth that we desperately need. Turns out we have nothing to worry about at all. The people are making it happen….

Let me expand:

·       * I met a bunch of youngsters in Tembisa last week who have come up with a brilliant plan to accelerate the delivery of vital services in their community. These guys are nothing more than visionaries – and are determined to change the world they live in. My hope is that they inspire millions of their mates, who have not had good role models, to be inspired to get out and make it happen too.

·          * Down the road from Tembisa, I engaged with the owners a 30-year old business with an innovative plan to fix the perennial problem of consumer debt to municipalities. They have invested substantial family money into preparing the way to fix what the state is clearly incapable of fixing. Not only do they have a fantastic business, but they are also likely to improve the financial viability of municipal services for the next generation.

·     * En route to my next meeting, I discovered a new roadhouse on the high street of Edenvale that should have McDonalds shaking in their boots. The service and the toasted sarmie were outstanding – this could turn into a Saturday night, family treat from here on.

·         *I took my out-of-warrantee car for a service at a back-yard operator in Honeydew. Using German diagnostics, he painstakingly took me through the health check on my car, with what I can only describe as love, devotion and integrity.

·        * I needed a lawyer last week and Googled “commercial lawyer Johannesburg.” By the time one of the big three firms had bothered to respond, I had commissioned a young, feisty, combative  lawyer, at a third of the price of the big guys – and I’m confident we have sorted out our immediate dilemma  - and I sense I have a lawyer for life.

Was it just me seeing innovation at work, ordinary folk showing sheer guts and determination to get ahead and people in businesses showing flair, integrity and guts? And, quite obviously, opportunities abound!

Man it’s good to see!
