Another R35bn reasons why...

Having read about the wasteful and irregular spending of another R35Bn, I can't help but wonder why so many of our countrymen still have faith in the ruling party.

Communities within South Africa who still do not have access to the basic living needs like shelter, food, clean running water, electricity and relief should be the most outraged, by the "good" story the ANC continues to tell.

Schools that are run from mud huts and still use the long drop "toilet" system, where pupils have DIED, should be fuming.

Our dismal public health care doctors, nurses and patients' blood pressure should be hitting the roof.

Every citizen who has been a victim of crime should be howling for justice.

Why is it then, that we haven't demanded that the ruling party make wholesale changes from top to bottom? How is it that no one will ever be held accountable for this abhorrent waste? The best I can figure, is that we have been bludgeoned into a place of hopelessness, quietly accepting that no matter how much noise we make about this, ultimately, we are powerless to stop this from happening.

I hope someone can tell me why the government lives by the "do as I say, not as I do" mantra? All the while telling the citizens of South Africa that paying your e-tolls and TV license is the "right" thing to do. The blatant hypocrisy flaunted by our "leaders" is a hard pill to swallow.

What hope can we draw on when one set of rules exists for the general public and our government are law unto themselves?

This is another reason why the tax paying citizens are so frustrated. Capitalists and entrepreneurs are blamed for what the starving masses do not have, yet no one stops to think about what the ridiculous waste of public funds could have done, to close the gap between the poverty stricken and middle class.

We now have another 35Bn reasons to question every statement issued by the ruling party. The public have all the more reason to meet anything proposed by the ANC with scepticism and suspicion.

Next time your electricity is off, your water runs dry, the SABC and SAA need yet ANOTHER bailout - count to 35Bn and keep calm...
