Answers To Atheists: Was Jesus to come?

From the previous article "Answers To Atheists: Failed Prophecy?" a verse was brought up in which Christ stated that some of his followers will not taste of death till they see him "coming in his kingdom" and it was stated that the words of Christ reached a fulfillment, that it was not referring to the actual coming of Christ in his glory with his angels on earth. In this article we are to take another angle of the verse in which will dive into the coming of Christ in glory.

Christ after speaking such words to his disciples, we are told in Luke 9:28 that He "took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray." after Christ had spoken those words eight days before. There they saw Jesus transfigured as his "raiment was white and glistering." In glory they saw Him with the two men who are said to be "Moses and Elias". This Peter exclaimed saying, "we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty...when we were with him in the holy mount "--2 Peter 1:16, 18. By such words one can deduct that the transfiguration of the Son of God at the "Holy Mount" was a representation of the second coming, which they beheld.

But how is this? Notice Moses was resurrected by Christ after sometime of his death where he contended with Satan over the body of Moses as recorded by Jude 9: "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. " For Moses being with Christ was a representation of those who "sleep in Jesus,  the dead in Christ shall rise first" at his second coming. While Elijah, being taken without tasting death to heaven, was a representation of the saints which shall be "alive and remain" to be "caught up together with them in the clouds" in that great day of Almighty God.

We can understand that during the first century, it was made clear in regard to the second coming as saying: "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day[the second coming of Jesus] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."-- 2 Thessalonians 2:3. From this verse the notion that the disciples believed Christ was to come at their lifetime is not necessarily true, as this words say otherwise. Even Peter would go to tell us that the "Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness." but is "long suffering to-wards us" not willing that any of us should perish but that we may repent of our sins..(see 2 Peter 3:9).
