Religion is a guaranteed right under our constitution, so is freedom of speech with some exceptions. Most of these exceptions have to do with discrimination. It is also a basic human right not to be discriminated against because you have a different religion, like boys instead of girls and vice versa.
The religious confuse the right to worship, with the right to discriminate. It is not OK to discriminate against anyone because they don't have the same faith you do. A gay person may not refuse christians a service because they are bigoted idiots, They may not refuse them service because they are black, white or even purple. Christians have the same obligation. There is no difference thus no attack on their rights. Everyone is equal in this regard.
Toby claimed that if someone does not want to offer you service you should not argue and leave. By doing that Toby you are allowing them to think discrimination is OK, You are allowing them to think that their religious beliefs supersede another's right not to be discriminated against.
Pastor Niemoller said it best way back in the 1940's.
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
Edmund Burke also said “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
I am not gay, but I stand for human rights and gays are human, They don't need special rights, just those I have are enough, not some of them but all of them, If gays get married they don't affect my marriage, If gays want furniture and I can help I will, If gays want to have a parade, and toyi toyi, I will support it. Not because I am a gay sympathiser or secretly want to sleep with men, but because I am a human and so are they.
I am not Christian but if Christians want to pray and worship in a church I will not stand in their way, If they want to bring God into a public meeting then it's only fair that all 3 million other gods get their time as well. If you want religion taught in schools, we don't pick one, we teach them all from Amun Ra to Zeuss. You see, when you give one group more rights than another you are discriminating against the others.
If you want to have voluntary prayer meetings at a school and the people that want to attend them do, I will not stand against it, but if you won't let the satanists have the same rights, then we have a problem.
Having sad this, I want you to understand I am non religious, I am an atheist and have no truck with any superstitions and any invisible friends. If the believers of those imaginary deities don't try and shove them down my throat, don't tell the world how moral they are and how immoral I am, I would never write any anti theist articles.
Here is something for you, The day you can supply falsifiable evidence of YOUR god, I will convert immediately.
Why am I anti religion? It's simple really, there is no evidence to show that any gods exist. The Bible taught me that gods don't exist, just madmen who want to control the world.
