Avijit Roy: Anothe atheist killed by the Virus of Faith

On Thursday, 26 February, Avijit Roy was hacked to death with maschetes by religious extremists, the reason? He dared to have an atheist blog, Mukto-Mona. He was an american citizen who dared to go back to his home country in Bangladesh to promote his new book at one of the country's biggest book fairs.

But this is not new, of course, atheists are being jailed and executed left and right for not becoming religious zombies, this just shows what happens when people take their holy books literally. As atheists we are victimized for not bowing to the power of religious zealots – and this shows how important it is to keep on talking, to keep on showing how evil religion is and why we must not bow down to these ideologists who demand respect for their crazy beliefs.

Religion, a medieval form of unreason, when combined with modern weaponry becomes a real threat to our freedoms. —Salman Rushdie

In an article, to be published sometime in April/May, the last article Roy wrote for the Free Inquiry he writes: To me, such religious extremism is like a highly contagious virus.”

Further he says: “O f course I know that most Muslims are not terrorists; they are peaceful. The reason is that they do not follow the Qur’an literally.”

He had received numerous death threats since 2014 when his book was first released during last year's book fair and the extremists waited for his return to Bangladesh for this year's book fair to muder him.

One could easily fill volumes with similar stories of ant-atheist hatred, even when they do not turn violent, religious hatred directed at atheists has become normal – it has become normal to hear about murders and imprisonments of atheists in Islamatic countries, it has become normal to hear how western societies ostracize and discriminate against atheists, it happening all around us – even our politicians like the FF+ making strong statements for fighting against equal treatment of atheists in our schools to do their Christian duty.

Creationsists are not unlike these Islamist ideologists, like the Islamists use a literal interpretation to kill our people, creationists use their literal interpretation to kill our minds, brainwashing people into fearing facts of life, fearing education, fearing science, if creationists think that they are any better than Islamists, they must think again, their efforts may not be physically violent, but they are just as insidious and far more subtle.

Religion is evil, it is hell on earth, although many good people are religious, one can never ever say that religion is good, no matter how many good things it does, taken literally, it turns good people into zombies and into demons.
