Blame it on Joshua

There are three subjects I find very interesting, its Life, Love and Leadership. I can never quite tell when these subjects grew so close to my heart but there is something incredibly interesting about human dynamics and human relations. I think it’s because like technology and politics, human beings are constantly changing and life in itself is a process of change.

I know that things are in a constant state of change but also believe that nothing really truly change. Think about everyone who has every assumed a leadership position B.C. years ago, those people got involved in a lot of migraine inducing situations. Moses was given a task to lead the Israelites out of Egypt under the strategic direction of God. The stress that the Israelites caused Moses because of the inherent ever changing needs of us as human beings was enormous. Shall we mention the challenges Joshua faced or maybe even go beyond B.C and mention how human beings related to Jesus Christ? At one point he was the saviour and the next moment a villain. The point is leadership is not an easy task, it comes with a great portion of accountability, responsibility and as if that is not enough the universe will also hold you accountable for authenticity.

I would like to be the first to admit that in my life to date, 85% of people I first laid my eyes on, connected with, I am still able to lay my eyes on them. So deaths have been patient with most of my intra and inter relationships for now. With this said, I have had my fair share of pain, enough that if we have to write a book about tears, I too will have a chapter to write like every other soul. Otherwise how would we appreciate smiles if we never cried?  My background on experience with death is aimed at acknowledging the importance of having not walked in someone shoes, as is the case with people who are faced with bidding farewell to their loved ones who died in Nigeria.

I feel God was very intelligent when She created us because He somehow made it clear that we will need just a little faith to birth situations into our lives and what a challenge it can be to have the minimum required faith which equals the size of the mustard seed. It’s intriguing how most Christians struggle with faith, how many make God their last resort instead of the first solution. It’s interesting how we as God’s people can never be at peace with situations, yet in the Lord’s Prayer we accept God’s will in our lives. Christians will also be the first one to quote scriptures like love your neighbour as you love yourself and this will change as soon as the neighbour is gay. It is because of this that most people shy away from indentifying with the Christian movement.

We are now as a people faced with a classic example of a faith test. The church collapses and people die. And what do we do as human beings, we revert to what Christian Science calls the mortal mind, we want someone to blame. Has anyone ever thought that some of the people in that church could at some point in their lives prayed to die in a church. I am saying this because I have prayed to die in my sleep but it is only after this church incident that I thought about the implications for the manufacturer of the bed I will be sleeping on and the soul I might be sleeping next to when I die. The burden of being left behind; be it because you are to blame for the situation or you were just a witness to the situation.

I would like to ask the following question, is there ever a perfect time to die, would it have been better if the church that collapsed was our local Rhema, Rivers, Lutheran, Roman, Anglican or ZCC Church. Maybe there was communication malnutrition on how the entire situation was handled on the side of Nigeria, maybe there was a fault in the architecture but did we not recently kill our own in the form of Marikana. Can we really throw a stone at Joshua?

There is a certain disbelieve and pain that comes with saying goodbye to someone you love, but death is a necessary part of life. May God give us peace to accept the things we cannot change and the faith to know that all is infinite love even in tears flooding situations. I once listened to Wayne Dyer and he said something profound, he said to be enlightened is to have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing. May enlightenment find home in our minds as we explore this journey called life.
