If you don’t like it, tough! There is nothing you can do about it because they are the monopoly supplying 95% of the countries power.
Cyril suspending Matona seems like another move by ANC to deflect attention.
Eskom has been headlining all major news and will continue to do so for at least a year. Medupi strike saw 25 000 workers down tools for a day. This equates to around 200 000 labour hours lost excluding the damage done to the site from the striking workers. Numsa now threatens to down tools again should Eskom not reinstate the 1 000 workers that were fired for the damage.
The greed of top Eskom executives has led to an investigation into the diesel and coal suppliers for possible corruption in the contracting of the suppliers.
Some neighborhoods have been fortunate to not experience any load shedding over the past four months. Looking at the load shedding schedules on the local municipality websites it is clear that all South Africans should still have been on some form of load shedding.
Considering the backlog on work at Medupi and Kusile and the backlog on general maintenance my concern is that Eskom is still failing to save enough power to do maintenance work required. If Eskom have stayed committed to the load shedding schedule they could have by now probably saved enough power to do so.
Winter is upon us now and it’s a fact that more power will be consumed. The grid will be under severe strain and we will probably have load shedding throughout the winter. Increasing the tariffs is not the sole solution. We need another Power supplier.
