When I think of our Country I automatically think of the metaphor involving the frog in boiling water.
The boiling frog is a narrative describing a frog slowly being boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.
This metaphor reminds me of our Country, we have all become complacent with the crime and complete destruction that is consuming our nation. No one raises an eyebrow when we are told that yet another smash and grab has taken place, it has become the norm. Load shedding is now a way of life. Crime alerts of hijackings, rapes and murders are an everyday occurrence. I constantly catch myself saying “Thank goodness it’s not me this time...”
To all my fellow South Africans, take a step back, the first step is acceptance! We all have a duty and responsibility to stand up and say no! Do not let the citizens of this country end up with the same future as the Frog in boiling water.
I beg you, if not for yourselves, but for your children and your children’s children. Not all of us can hop on a plane and leave this Country, and why should we, this is our home! Let’s take it back.
Mr President, It is time for the wheel to turn. You can take your pool, kraal and fancy auditorium someplace else, we have all had just about enough!
