Dawkins the Messiah?

On yesterday's article I was told that Dawkins is the Atheist Messiah and he has many apostles and followers. My Atheism started 20 some years ago in my early 20's, Dawkins is a Johnny come lately that makes some sense, based on quotes I have seen but shock horror I have not read any of his books. This statement made me realise that Christians think Atheists come from reading works by Satan's minions.

I read an article the other day that talked about 6 types of Atheists in America. I did not fit into their boxes. I shared some traits with a few of the different kinds of Atheist but do not conform to any of the norms suggested. Maybe I am an outlier in Scientific or Statistical terms, but I got to thinking: The Atheists I know personally don't fit in those boxes either, are we all statistical anomalies or Is there some move afoot to fit everyone into neat categories?

For those of you that don't know in my early 20's I was a rabid Bible thumper, I attended prayer groups every day, I did Bible study, read all the religious books of the day and went to up to three church services on a Sunday. I was considering becoming a missionary. This all came to a thundering halt the day I realised that none of my prayers were being answered and a few other doubts crept in. You see I had read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations, yes all of the begats and the demonic creatures in Revelations in my teens. At about 22 I read it again and those questions creeping around the edge of my mind started creeping into my concious thoughts.

I didn't give up on Religion till I had read every religious book in the Sea Point library, from numerology and the Kaballah to Astral travel and loads of other woo woo. I still attended church not as often but I poked my head in so that God wouldn't think I was being a total doofus. The more I read the more incredulous the stuff seemed. I found out that there were other Gods, other creators and even miracles in other religions and faith systems.

A few years later I attended a mind power seminar and saw healing not in the name of Jesus or Allah or Krishna, but purely by mental power. A bloke that had been reliant on a crutch walked across the stage and down three big steps without his crutch with some mental programming and hype. That day I realised that God was a crutch that held back thought. No Science involved in my deconversion from this death cult. I became more interested in Science and read some stuff if it interested me, Rocks bore me so I don't study geological material unless it's been written for morons of course. I havent read Darwins tome, I have just gleaned insight from stuff I have read over the years. This is one thing I do, I read, almost anything including cereal boxes and the credits in movies.

In twenty years of reading I have found no proof or even an inkling of evidence that there may be a God. I even reread the Bible a few years ago because I was told I didn't understand what I was reading. I guess I still don't because that mish mash of fairy tales and myths still convinces me that there is no God. If the bloke was omniscient and omnipotent his choice of scribes was terrible, they contradict one another, tell tall tales and even prove that Jesus was a false prophet.

I have a sister that married into one of those religions that don't eat pork. I may not visit her in passing because that lady may just be ruined and choose to have a little incest for fun. There must always be another male present (husband) and this irks me. The idiocy of religion and it's adherents has me scratching my head in awe.

Oh and that bloke that published the gobbledy gook, I have male parts and would thus be referred to as he unlike that imaginary friend of yours that is truly unisex, impotent, unknowing and not there. Just so that there is no misunderstanding the so called word of God made me an Atheist not anything written by Satan's minions.
