Decisions, decisions

Some things are not as easy as they seem; in theory following a healthy diet should cost less (because one eats less), but in reality there’s actually a whole lot of costly food that must be bought in the Health Food section - while a lot less in terms of portions, it all ends up being much more in terms of variety in the shopping trolley and the number of times one must eat just to get full again.

And I wonder if I wouldn’t be bored for the first time in my life if I stopped striving for balance (which I now realize can only be achieved by the hour and not by the day, or week let alone by the month or by the year – certainly not with someone like myself who has lots of interests that clash most terribly with one another). The temptation is always to overdo one thing to compensate for not doing the next – to perhaps do some form of exercise in the morning and then to feast well later is all good and well if not well balanced but that’s more often than not ruined by the inevitable (and much needed) long, lazy nap which often stretches deep into the time one would reserve for other activities such as reading, swimming or enjoying a weekend pint or two.

Sleeping early and waking up early to do a spot of gardening; sweeping the yard etc goes some way towards achieving the goal because one could factor in those activities both as relaxation time And exercise thus shooting two  birds with one stone. so to speak.

“if you‘re doing the exact same thing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 4 or 5 o’ clock it’s the surest sign of someone needing to spread out their time more wisely” I was told. All good and well with that too but then one must force one’s self into doing something that one is not in the mood for just to get that ticked off the weekends “Must Do” list. The solution for most people it seems, is simply to enjoy the weekend, to eat and drink well and watch sport all day leaving the small matter of the leaking roof, faulty car engine etc alone, and to forget about the promises of implementing a rotation-system for the cooking and laundry etc. Decisions, decisions.
