Corruption is not taking South Africa anywhere. It is the enemy of development and of good governance and must be eradicated as soon as possible. Both the government and the people at large must come together to achieve this national objective. Corruption at driving schools and traffic departments is rife. Why, instead of paying R5 000 at a driving school, you are now expected to pay another R3 000 for bribery at the testing ground?
Why should anyone pay for something they are not supposed to pay for? Has our country come to this? Is corruption really out of control? Or is it just our leaders and government officials who don’t have any principles who are failing us? How long are we going to have fatal accidents on our national roads due to the poor standard of driving?
We need to stand together as South Africans and fight this sickness called corruption. I’m still young and have one child, and just thinking of how much bribery my children will have to pay by the time they want their driver’s licences and other legal documents makes me sick.
Don’t promote corruption, report it. As a nation with intelligent youth, let’s stop allowing corruption and bribery to continue being an integral part of our national experience. Say no to corruption and bribery and strive to stop it infiltrating the public sector as well as NGOs and charities.
