The ANC’s Gwede Mantashe has now accused the EFF of being fascist. Militancy, uniforms, mass hysteria, does all of that sound familiar? Hmmm – funny that, reminds me a little of a famous, make that infamous, leader who was vilified by the whole world. What was his name again? Ah right – Hitler. That’s the one. Pity Julius really has no idea and is simply using the outward trappings to make himself more famous.
The ANC should really be careful though, as name calling can give rise to all sorts of unflattering comparisons. For instance, accusations of fascism could very easily be countered with accusations of nepotism maybe, corruption possibly, or, perish the thought, outright theft – of taxpayers money.
Unfortunately, the public – and private – spats will simply result in more recriminations and bile being spewed and nothing will result from it except more damage to our wonderful country.
Look at the results so far. Road rage, parliamentary rage, public outrage, private fury, vicious attacks, verbal and physical, on every possible institution, person, child, animal and inanimate object. What have we become? And why?
The simple answer is that all of this is the expression of our helpless fury at the ineptocracy which has replaced our democracy. My heart breaks again, still.
