The Area Commissioner
Johannesburg Management Area
Reference: Monitoring of parolee’s within the CBD and surrounding area.
As monitoring official employed within the Community Corrections of the Department, we on a daily basis experience anomalies and procedural matters which makes the execution of our duties very restricted and in a number of circumstances almost impossible.
The following having been identified as crucial matters that hinder our capabilities and capacities:
1. Uniforms issued to members have not happened within the last 4 Years, which as a consequence forced employees to wear their private clothing;
2. Identification name tags that would serve the purpose are conspicuously absent;
3. Parolees staying within Hillbrow, Yeoville, Berea and surrounding areas, are often staying in flats in the area, and without any sufficient and appropriate clothing and identifications makes access to the building impossible as the security would not allow anyone into the building that do not reside there, or whom can vouch for the reason that they should be allowed access;
4. The allowance being paid to employees in respect of cell phones is totally inefficient to allow them the necessary capacity and capability to execute their duties as mandated effectively and efficiently.
5. As employees of the Department of Correctional Services, they are portraying the image of the Department, but with the lack of matters as raised in 1-4 above, the Departments image are being seriously dented.
For your urgent attention in this regard.
For and on behalf of all Community Corrections Officials.
