Game Of Thrones lets Croatia bloom

One of the hottest trends in travel this year is to the European destination of Croatia, due to its appearance on the hit TV show Game of Thrones. Some of the scenes filmed in the city of Dubrovnik, showcase the incredible magic of this beautiful city.

Croatia is full of spectacular coastlines, prestige nature, and ancient harbor port towns that have been preserved for centuries. If you are tired of travelling to Spain or Greece for your fun in the sun holiday trip it is time to try something new and visiting King's Landing in real life sounds like a pretty good alternative, don't you think?

But since Croatia is not that small and has plenty things to offer, let's narrow things down and present 5 places you should visit (or at least some of them):

1. Dubrovnik - The cities walls are breath taking and the Old Town is a must see. One of the most famous and beautiful beaches is Banje, it is a public beach so all are welcomed. There are also many nearby islands to take a day trip to (like the Island Lokrum, where some scenes of Game of Thrones were also shot). Make sure to spend a few days because there is so much to do. There is also a good chance you run into some of the most famous people in the world, like Bill Gates, Beyonce or Jay-Z, who also love to take a trip to Dubrovnik. If you are a big fan of the TV series, you will love the city even more. Many scenes of King's Landing where shot there and people from all over the world visit now Croatia only because of this reason!

2. Zagreb - A good place to kick off your summer stay because it is easy to find great promotions from most cities in the EU and is a central location with easy connections to the rest of Croatia. In terms of sight-seeing take a stroll through Upper Town and Lower Town and find yourself in the main square filled with art galleries and museums. Looking more for nightlife, Zagreb has been compared to Prague for its restaurants, bars, and night clubs. But if you are more into beaches, islands and long warm summer walks, you should stick with Dubrovnik or some of the places I mentioned below.

3. The Island of Vis - With many islands to choose from this island stands out for its interesting history. Once a naval base this island was cut off from any foreigners till the year 1989. Because of this the development and tourism is quite different than the other typical Croatian islands. Rent a boat or yacht and explore the open and inviting island. Take a boat trip to the Blue Cave, a nearby must see! Really, the Blue Cave (also known as the Blue Grotto) is an absolute highlight in Croatia, check out these images, you won't believe your eyes!

4. Makarska - Rocky shores surround pebbled beaches in this amazing bay which is protected from making it a calmer climate. Turquoise waters, amazing hikes, mountain biking, and more are all possible if you want to be more active on your summer holiday. Visit the local markets to try the amazingly fresh fish, delicious oil, and outstanding wine.

5. Plitvice Lakes National Park - You cannot leave Croatia without seeing at least one of its 8 national parks. If you like to explore beautiful waterfalls, turquoise lakes and hidden forests then Plitvice Lakes are a perfect destination. With accommodations inside and close by the park, set aside a few days for this hot spot.

Start planning your summer holiday trip to Croatia today. Look for great deals online and remember to book hotels and accommodations ahead of time. While your friends stay at home on the couch watching Game of Thrones you will be walking the ancient cities of Dubrovnik, swimming in beautiful beaches, and visiting unbelievable islands.

What adventures and memories are waiting for you and your family in the exciting country of Croatia?
