Great Expectations

No this is not a tale about some women in Victorian England it's a commentary on society, although that wasn't a bad movie. I want to discuss some very important stuff today. I have been looking to expand my business a little and have been looking for a cabinetmaker/carpenter to help improve productivity in my small business.

I have received a few Curriculum Vitaes from interested parties. The one thing that astounds me every time is the people that will send a CV for a job they have no background in. I can almost bet if you were advertising for a Rocket Scientist, someone will send you a CV with lots of plumbing experience. 50% of the CV I received were deleted without thought. I am not looking for a driver or a welder, They tend not to understand wood.

The next thing that had me floored was the salary expectations. I get a CV from some one that has worked for himself, done lots of supervisory work and also has the necessary skill. He is applying at a small business in a small town and puts down a salary requirement of 30k. Now let's be real if I could get a salary of 30k doing what I am doing, I'd be there so fast it's not funny. Seriously earning more than I am now, with half the stress, what's not to like?

Anyway all this reminds me of marriage and expectations. I saw a meme today that said 1. Wives are always right, and 2. If you need reminding who is right see number 1. I simplified this many years ago. Married men can be right or they can get nookie, It's an either or, there is no room for negotiation.

Expectations are some odd things, You may have what you consider are real expectations, you know like a fiancee that will be a good wife, cooking, cleaning and sex on tap, She has other expectations and you may as well stop living in lala land with your unrealistic expectations.
