After watching a progam on DSTV (Carte Blanche) about elderly abuse I was shocked for two reasons the first being that a caregiver tasked with caring for an 84 yr old woman could beat her up so badly, the second being the family put her into this care facility at a cost of R14000 pm, if they could afford to pay this they could afford to put up a granny flat and employ a fultime nurse. The old woman suffered from dementia and was wheel chair bound but still able to converse.
My late mother also suffered from dementia and later cancer but I could not put her into a care facillity one I could not affoard it & secondly she was my mother my family decided to share the responsibility and we cared for her 24/7 she became bedridden and needed nappies until the cancer killed her.
My point is why put the person who gave birth to you into a facillity that is going to abuse her or ignore her when she needs help especially when you can affoard R14K per month
