As an opinionated liberal and avid university debater I am constantly involved in public and internet debates with many right-wingers. And after getting quite frustrated with their debate tactics, I decided to do an in-depth analyses on the way in which they argue. From this informal research of mine I have compiled a list of crucial points which you need to understand and implement when you want to argue like a South African right-winger (Like all my blog posts, take what is relevant, and if you are offended… well if the shoe fits.)
So here we go, 16 points that will help you argue like a right-winger:
- Always argue emotionally and never logically, remember logic is just a big word liberals invented to make you sound dumb.
- Always make use of disanalogies like: South Africa will end up just like Zimbabwe or White people are living in Apartheid now.
- Remember that all facts and research are just left-wing propaganda.
- Call Nelson Mandela a terrorist at least three times.
- Call FW de Klerk a traitor.
- Always argue reverse racism and Apartheid, those are strong arguments.
- Launch many ad hominem attacks. It is always better to insult your liberal opposition personally, than to address their arguments. Call them narrow-minded libtards or sell-outs to the ANC.
- Always ask your fellow right-wingers to join you in insulting this liberal person. It does not make you a coward if 10 of you team up against one person.
- Remember to reference that one cousin of yours with the BCom degree that can’t get a job because he is white (but don’t mention that he is quite lazy and wants to immediately start working in a managerial position).
- Always claim that white people are being oppressed and that black people were happier under Apartheid.
- Tell them you have black colleagues and thus you are not racist.
- Quote a scripture from the Bible that justifies Apartheid.
- Threaten to immigrate.
- Claim that black culture is more prone to violence, and remember that the Sunday rapist, Modimolle monster, Griekwa stad murderer, Waterkloof four and Oscar Pistorius, are just exceptions being exploited by the media.
- Insult Adriaan Basson and threaten to boycott Beeld and Naspers.
- Lastly always claim victory over the debate, because you are obviously very objective, due to only being involved on an emotional level and not a logical one.
For relevant examples refer to the Facebook pages of Steve Hofmeyer, Dan Roodt and Sunette Bridges as well as the comments on those pages. If you follow these 16 points, you will most definitely be a controversial right-winger that can easily be taken to court by a puppet.
If however, you are a left-winger, or just any normal person that wants to point out the fallacies in the right-winger’s case, follow this link to Youtube to learn about many of the fallacies that is used during debates.

Remember that this piece is written in a very sarcastic tone. I would never call what right-wingers are doing debate. Also not all right-wingers argue like this, although, you don’t often find them on the internet. That was also sarcastic. Angry right-wingers please feel free to comment below, I will however only engage if you post logical arguments. Even though this is a sarcastic piece, I do respect other people’s opinions, however it doesn’t mean I have to agree with them.
