A would-be thief got more than he bargained for when he was apprehended in Isipingo on Friday 22 May 2015.
At around 13h30, an alarm activation from a Jacaranda Crescent home came through to the ADT Security Monitoring Centre and armed response was immediately dispatched. ADT Security Armed Response Officer (ARO), Donovan Chetty, responded within minutes and successfully apprehended a suspect who was found whilst attempting to flee from the yard.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had used a ladder to climb on top of the roof before removing the roof tiles to gain entry to the home.
The suspect was handed over to the Isipingo South African Police Service (SAPS) for arrest.
Ivan Govender, District Manager of ADT Security KwaZulu Natal, praised ARO Chetty for his quick response and advised residents to regularly check their perimeter fencing and to ensure that windows and doors are properly closed overnight.
“As an extra security measure, consider installing outdoor beams; if you already have them ensure that they are also activated. Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
