I don’t follow Minister Fikile Mbalula on any social media platform nor do I support his party. My attention has just been drawn to the article Gareth Van Onselen penned for Business Day and I must say there is journalism and then there is cow dung and what Mr. Van Onselen penned qualifies as cow dung.
Hit list
Granted, politicians have put themselves up for public scrutiny by taking the stance of being public representatives. However when journalists, or those who think they are journalists – like Van Onselen, start churning our content as if it is based on some ‘hit list’ then one wonders the profession of journalism still has men and women of honour.
Van Onselen through his column operates like he has a score to settle against a couple of people, Mbalula being the principal target. In fact the person who drew my attention to the bile that Van Onselen spewed about Mbalula said it appears as is Mbalula took Van Onselen’s girl back in high school and so now it is ‘payback time’.
Facts
If Mbalula has failed in the execution of his duties as the Minister of Sports (I am not saying he hasn’t) please present FACTS on what failed under his leadership. Do not just shoot in the dark telling us that he has failed and churning out 1 249 words attacking the persona of the person rather than the portfolio. What has Mbalula not done that he was supposed to do? Please highlight that as that’s what his electorate chose him for.
Shoddy journalism
I for one am tired of Van Onselen’s cheap shots and shoddy journalism. It’s the lowest form of journalism. So next time before you set on your quest to shoot down Mbalula, Maimane, Hellen Zille or any other person please, please do some of us a favour, shoot yourself in the head first.
