Jewels of Life

Paul was/is a true model of a Christian. You can see from his letters to the various churches/regions that he was sincere in his care for them. He prayed for them continually (Philippians 4 vs 3, 4) and he always spoke about the need to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Delving into one of his letters, to the Philippians, you get a glimpse of the kind of life and faith a Christian should aspire and aim to live. It is by no means an easy life, as the life of Paul constantly testified, but if you know the reason why you are living that kind of life (for the love of God) it is rewarding, not just physically but spiritually, and it’s through spiritual rewards that we attain peace.

Rejoice in the Lord always: [and] again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand. Philippians 4 vs 4-6

-        In everything we do, we must always rejoice in God. As a believer, we must know that God will never allow anything to happen that can harm us or hinder going to heaven, and that should be the basis of our joy.

-        We must also let our joys known to everyone around us, not only to reveal the only true source of peace (God) but also to make it known that Jesus is soon to come. Now that is the best news

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4 vs 6

-        Other versions of the Bible say “don’t be anxious about anything” and while this is hard in todays microwave lifestyle (everything must happen fast) it is so rewarding to know that God is still as eager to hear our prayers and answer them.

-        All it takes is a faithful prayer and as long as your heart is pure & sincere, God will hear it.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through

Christ Jesus. Philippians 4 vs 7

-        When you know God has heard your prayers, you can be sure he has answered them positively. True peace emanates from knowing that you will receive that which you have asked for, in faith, and though you may not receive it immediately or in the manner you think is best, trust God to do what’s best for you.

-        God has never given something bad. He has our best interests at heart. Let’s trust Him always

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Philippians 4 vs 8

-        Focus only on the good things in life, those that best reflect the love for God and love for everyone else.

-        True peace is from God, who gives them that seek the good of others more than themselves.

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Philippians 4 vs 11, 12

-        Be content. This is also very hard for any of us, especially when you see ‘others’ seemingly happier because they have more materialistic goods but be aware, not all that glitters is true gold.

-        Being content gives one peace, because you realize you have all you need and you make the best of that. If you need more, for a noble cause (not for selfish gains) ask God in faith and he will give you

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Philippians 4 vs 13

-        With faith, nothing is impossible (if done for an unselfish cause)

-        You can’t have faith if you don’t know or deny the ability of God to help you in whatever situation you face.

But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4 vs 19

-        Needs and wants are different. Needs you can’t live without (peace, shelter, food, work, happiness)  and wants, although “nice to have” are not as vital to existence (“better” shelter, “better” food, “better” work). Wants tend to be never-ending, you always want better & better so you hardly at peace or happy

-        God loves us all so much, pity most of us refuse to see that love and reciprocate. Those who see the love and reciprocate have all their needs supplied.

-        Love is explained in actions. God will never let those whom he loves (and they love Him back) lack survival necessities.

-        Remember,  “if you love God keep His commandments”

Now unto God and our Father [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen. Philippians 4 vs 20
